Trust The Process

We live in a world where everything is at our fingertips, and if we want something, we have been conditioned to believe we can get what we want right away. However, when it comes to making changes to our bodies and lifestyle, meaningful change happens slowly. It can be tough to wait for results that are likely over 3 months away. This is where “the process” comes in. The process is made up of little wins and losses that we experience every day and is where the actual work is done. Without the process, results don’t exist. If you can become a master of your process, you have the key to unlocking your full potential.

Here are some tried and true tools for you to apply to help you successfully make the changes you seek to make in your life. In and out of the gym.

  1. Frame your thoughts to favour the outcome you desire.

If you can reframe your thoughts to match your desired outcome, powerful things can happen. Something like, ‘My workouts are so difficult. I’m not cut out for this.’ could be framed as ‘My workouts are difficult right now, but I am resilient, and with time and effort, they will become easier.’

If you can spin your situation to match your desired outcome, the outcome can suddenly become reachable because we mentally bridge the gap between where we are now and where we want to be next. How you view your situation is a choice. Always choose a perspective that gives you an upper hand.

  1. Success is found when you can both hold on and let go.

Holding on to what is important to you is an integral part of continuing to grow in the direction you wish. Sometimes this can be difficult, and hurdles will present themselves. If you can hold onto the greater vision, the hurdles won’t seem so big.

The same goes for when to let go. Life has many facets, and unfortunately, some of them negatively add to your life. Holding on to things that zap your energy or continuously add roadblocks to your daily life, doesn’t have a place in your life. If you truly want to pump up your chances for success, take a hard look at what is holding you back and decide if you can go without it. You likely can!

  1. Clarity breeds certainty

Clarify your why. 

Clarify your philosophy.

Clarify your strengths.

Clarify your weaknesses.

Clarify your plan.

Clarify when and how to execute your plan.

Clarify how you respond to adversity.

When you clear your vision, you will see the way. Meet your obstacles with a plan.

  1. Stack small wins.

You went to bed on time! Congrats! No seriously. A small win like this potentiates more wins for the following day. You’ll have more energy which will allow you to think more clearly and make better choices. One good choice leads to another, and momentum starts to build.

  1. Don’t only hold yourself accountable for the outcome. Hold yourself accountable to the process.

Your input becomes your output. Results are the product of the process. Without feeding the process, the results won’t grow. Are you accountable to the process or just to the outcome?

  1. Think like the person you want to become.

A healthy life is always under construction. If you think like the person you wish to become, you will start to identify as the person you want to be. Your values will start to align with the person you want yourself to be. You’ll notice environmental shifts that make desired change, the convenient option.

Your process is a never-ending road, and the road is always under construction. Over time, your road may twist and turn, but consistent action gets the road built. Your values will change as you evolve. Be fluid in your process and be kind to yourself.
